In pursuing authenticity, something more may be required of us. The mind is powerful, it can harm or heal, create fear or compassion. We can feel totally authentic and be misdirected and damaging. And we will fight to defend it. Perhaps we need to include compassion along with Becoming Authentic?
In my search for becoming authentic, the viralization of people felt very disruptive to me. Maybe we really do create our own reality with our minds. Maybe everything is really an illusion. If it is real to the individual it is authentic—to that person. I mean REALITY TV is real. Is pretending to be a survivor or whatever the role is, an authentic endeavor? There certainly appears to be REAL money in it.
When a house burned down in our neighborhood, we all pitched in to help the family. We came together. We forgot our petty individual squabbles.
Part of our exploration for authenticity can be inspired by others. I think we sense when another is “real”, just as we sense BS. Words spoken from the heart have a ring or truth we instinctively recognize.
Why do I worry so much? Why do I criticize myself so much? Why? Why?
